Unethical Behaviour

03/24/2009 :: Senator Anne-Marie Lizin, a leading politician of the Parti Socialiste (PS), the major party in Wallonia, the French-speaking southern part of Belgium, will be ousted by her party following allegations of corruption. Mrs. Lizin, who until 2007 was the Speaker of the Belgian Senate, is also on the board of a local hospital in her home town. During the past ten years she used €40,000 from the hospital’s funds on clothes, hairdressers, restaurants and visits to foreign destinations such as Palm Beach, Geneva and Guayaquil.

During the past decades the PS and its politicians have been implicated in numerous corruption scandals and cases of serious crime, including even the murder of one of its former leaders.

Because Mrs. Lizin does not belong to the clan of the current PS leader Elio Di Rupo, he has accused her of “unethical behaviour” and “damaging the party.” Mrs. Lizin denies any wrongdoings and accuses other party members of corruption and unethical behaviour.
